What Is Rationalism?

This is one of the themes of the volume Lee Trepanier and I are now editing. (Some of the pieces from this have already been published at Voegelin View.)

Here is a first cut at addressing the question.

  1. I continue to be baffled by the soi-disant "rationalist" movement. e.g. Less Wrong, Rationally Speaking. They take a variety of positions on various topics. I often agree with them and sometimes disagree, but I can never quite wrap my head around what makes their rationalism a particular theme. Might as well call it Miscellaneously Speaking as far as I can tell.
